And trust me.. when I have replied to a thread, I have read it! rolleyes.gif

Need to see if I can fix that sometime.

adrian- 09-25-2006
yep, that would be nice.

EadwineRose- 09-25-2006
I have done an extensive search in the support forums, but I couldn't find a solution to it. I have posted a question on this issue, you can view that here.

Seems this here is related to it. Tried the link, but I cannot follow to the actual post that tells me it is a bug though. If someone could check as well, much obliged.

Mind that they know we are on server number 9 here wink.gif not 13.

Well.. an answer came in on my original question:

"Im not sure that this is a problem as such. Does it really matter? Thats the way IPB is set it and it cant be changed."

My response: "Well.. if it didn't matter I wouldn't ask wink.gif Yes it matters because we have to go back and mark things read all the time, it is annoying."

This was not a board master (I think), so... we'll be waiting again.

adrian- 09-26-2006
That's an annoying thing. I hate when people say that, they don't realize that the difference between usable interface and annoying one is very thin but important nevertheless.

EadwineRose- 09-26-2006
Yep, and I refuse to believe that IPB cannot do anything about it. Other forum systems can, even simple phpBB, so why not IPB?

adrian- 09-26-2006
BTW, why did you choose IPB?
Maybe there's still time to switch if you find out that this is not the best forum...

EadwineRose- 09-26-2006
I chose this one because phpBB has an even MORE annoying bug. When you close the screen (or browser) and there were still topics unread, guess what happens a lot of the time? Everything gets marked as read then, and when you reopen there is only one way to figure out what you haven't read yet and that is by posting time.

That, and IPB is more powerful, more features and such.

Another reply, worth the try though I doubt it will help much:

"It is most likely a cache problem on your end - try clearing everything smile.gif"

My reply: "It is unlikely for that to happen to me and other users as well though... but I will tell them to do that, however, if after clearing cookies, history, cache, temp and whatnot the problem is still there I'll post back smile.gif"

So.. clear everything and then report back. If it is still a problem, let me know and I will tell them.

EadwineRose- 09-26-2006
Well.. did it. Cleared every single thing, even stored passwords, closed all, reopened, and now we will see.

Prob is still there. Going to post back to the forum.. lala grrr flourisse/tongue.gif

EadwineRose- 10-01-2006
Umm.. I doubt this can be solved, unfortunately.

I had a big huh.gif blink.gif going on there on one reply of the people. If I read the thing right what he says is that my clicking the mark forum read link is marking things read for other people. mellow.gif flourisse/laugh.gif flourisse/doh.gif

Final reply, apparently:

"Yes cannot be solved. Its the nature of IPB and thats how its gonna stay. And yes, for my forum by pressing mark all posts read, it makes them read for all users."

Err.. I will not go into a debate with this user as to whether or not this is true, since I REALLY do not believe I can control other peoples' cookies, and he apparently does.

*shrug* Ah well.. it'll stay this way then till hopefully this IPB forum software gets upgraded by Forumer to a newer version.
