There are those that say we are causing the global warming and that we can (hopefully) stop it.

There are those that say global warming doesn't exist, it is merely a cycle of the earth and we are not the cause of it. We are just speeding it up, but it would have happened anyway, man on earth or no man on earth.

Your ideas?

Hey I get to reply!

Honestly I am part of that group that believes that global warming and cooling are just part of the natural cycle, but that humanity is tipping this cycle in scary ways.

To demonstrate I want people to imagine the ocean, the soft up and down of the waves. Now picture a large wave maker, for those who don’t know these are just balls on a simple piston that pushes the ball up and down. Now imagine this one being huge and timed just right to hit the frequency of the waves at thier peak… Now picture a city a few thousands miles away and what the effect on that city would be as these waves crash against the shore.

That is global warming. What is a normal cycle has been compounded so the peak will be much, much, higher then it normally would be. You got to wake up and face the fact things are getting worse when an ice shelf larger then many countries happens to break off into the sea….

How to Talk to a Climate Skeptic

The graph under ‘Global warming is nothing new’ shows exactly what I was trying to get past. It is a natural if irregular cycle, one measured in hundreds to thousands of years. But thanks to human interference we are making this current cycle far worse. On these charts you can clearly see the normal highs and lows, often with breaks of hundred or so years between the peaks. But thanks to the industrial age and human interference onwards we have seen the recent peak growing much faster and growing much higher…

As for the denial stages… are people really that ignorant?

An interesting article appeared today: Mars Melt Hints at Solar, Not Human, Cause for Warming, Scientist Says

As for my opinion, I am not certain we are not the cause of global warming, but do I think we speed up the effects.

i believe that we definitely have a hand in the state of things, although i'm sure we're not the entire cause. i think our behavior (pollution, using resources like there's no tomorrow, etc.) exacerbates any natural cycles that take place here on earth. how could it not??? that would be like saying sunspots have no effect on earth and we know that they do. so, now we can add planetary influences in addition to our behavior and any patterns that may be normal in the lifetime of a planet.

Some cuts:

"Europe only produces 15 percent of global CO2," Merkel said. "The real climate problem will not be solved by Europe alone."

The EU also wants the United States to sign up to the Kyoto Protocol, which requires industrial nations to cut their global-warming gases by an average 5 percent below 1990 levels by 2012.

The major economies of the EU have committed to an 8 percent cut. The U.S., however, argues that Kyoto would do serious harm to its economy and said such cuts should also apply to surging Asian economies like China and India.

*pointing finger* He has to start or I won't play.

Pathetic, honestly. JHMO
