I've just found this on a forum in a discussion about guns:
http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/txcrime.htmIt's amazing how in 45 years while the population doubled some crimes grew 10 times. Interstingly enough murders grew with "only" 70%
Opinions, comments?
I just got back from Texas.
I couldn't believe how many people were getting shot (on the news). My dad couldn't believe my disbelief because "people get shot in San Diego too" I told him, "Yeah, but in San Diego, most people are shot by somebody they know." Lots of shooting stories on the news. Lots of crime
I don't know if there is more crime going on there or if they just talk about it more. But how does Texas rate, crime-wise, in comparison to other states?
That statistic was posted in a discussion about gun ownership and how that "solves" the crime problem.... for me it was shocking to see a 10 times increase in different crimes in 45 years while the population only doubled.
That is shocking. Obviously something is going on and somehow I don't think "more guns" is going to fix it. Maybe, more (better) police, better economy, stricter laws...

...gun control

Good luck imposing gun control in Texas, you'd probably have better luck to make them worship Jebus.
