For a number of years I have been hearing about this Harry Potter hype, and frankly, I didn't participate. I am more of a Anne McCaffrey/J.R.R. Tolkien kind of person where fantasy is concerned. I own the whole Dragonriders of Pern series, for one (I know I am not alone in this feat, someone else in here has them all as well biggrin.gif ).

Also.. I am not that much of a library person, where I have to make sure to read a book within a certain time, and also discover sometimes quite disturbing things are in the books flourisse/scared.gif and I am not talking about original content flourisse/laugh.gif And.. I just like a book to be my own; once I have dug in I have a hard time parting with it.

But.. I have discovered the thing called Ebay, where I could, for a nice price, buy the whole series new if I would want to. However.. I am doubting.. is it all that it is made up to be?

My question is: who has read the HP series, and would you please tell me what you found so intruiging about it? smile.gif

Get the first volume and see if you like it, there's not way one or another person could tell you if you'd like it or not -- people have different tastes. (if it's a great deal you can buy them all, I'm sure you'll find buyers if you don't like them).

I enjoyed the books, I like kids stories (although I feel kind of old lately) and although I'm a pretty skeptical type of guy (read: "ordinary muggle") who doesn't give a damn on "supernatural" stuff I enjoyed them for the story and I had fun. But in your case you might enjoy them for the supernatural settings too wink.gif

Well.. I like mystery, myth... I guess my taste for LOTR amongst others gives that away. Also.. a love for dragons *laughs* Yeah.. it is mostly books I like that take me away from the daily grind. smile.gif

I'll see what I can find smile.gif

Oh yes. I agree with Adrian. Get the first one or two books and give them a try. If you like them, then you'll definitely like the rest. I have all six. Can't wait for the seventh. Actually, I can. I don't know. It's really a bittersweet thing with the ending of the series. sad.gif

... but let me venture a guess: you'll love it and you'll not put it down till you finish it (so start to read in weeked) wink.gif

In your place I'd get the English version, even if there's a Dutch one.

I always get the English versions *giggles* All the Anne McCaffrey books here are in English, heck.. I think I have maybe 10 books that are in Dutch.

I could not STAND.. say.. Bilbo Baggins to be called Bilbo Balings!

I mean.. *shudder* BLASPHEMY! flourisse/tongue.gif

No I may hope they left the name intact.

Would look mighty stupid on the cover. "Harry Potten"

or something.

Blah, stupid translators! flourisse/tongue.gif
