President Bush carried Ohio, Iowa, and New Mexico in 2004 because vast numbers of ballots cast by minorities for John Kerry in those states were never counted, an investigative reporter says.

In New Mexico, which Bush won by 5,988 votes, 33,981 ballots were not counted; in Iowa, which Bush won by 10,059 votes, 36,811 ballots were not counted; and in Ohio, which Bush won by 118,599 votes, a whopping 239,127 ballots were not counted.

Read more. I realize this is a very anti-Bush site that I am linking to, but considering the post and the info given in there it is an interesting read.

And most likely the spark that got the above article written: link.

It's in the past, nothing we can change about it now, but let's just hope it does not happen again in the next election of 2008!

You should see more on the ‘caging’ scandal that is coming to light. Basically the Republican Party decided that they would mail out a letter that had to be returned or signed for. Any letters that where not returned where challenged on the ground that the voter was ‘illegal’ due to having the wrong address.

Most of the ballots challenged where absentee ballots. This is because the people where not currently in the state. This also explains why they where not there to sign and or return the letters that where sent. It didn’t matter, the votes where ‘challenged’ and they where not counted. Never mind that it is illegal to do this as you are challenging people who are legit voters.

Now guess where a large number of ballots that where rejected came from? Iraq… Yes soldiers where being denied their right to vote because Bush had sent them overseas and they where, in turn, unable to reply and or sign for these letters.

Oh yes, before I turn in… the reason this scandal came to light: The party emailed the lists of people to challenge and their plans on how to go about it to the wrong email address. The person who received the emails isn’t friendly to the Bush administration and had no qualm about releasing them.

Not to forget that in Ohio the organization was so bad (the election there were organized by the Republican Governor) that many people stayed in lines for hours to vote, it's not inconceivable that many people just gave up.

Not surprised.

It is one of the ‘typical’ voter disfranchising schemes that happens every modern election. Never enough machines and/or ballots delivered to certain areas while more then enough go to others. Guess the colour of the people living in those areas that miss out and those living in the areas with the surplus machines....

Paper all the way, I say.

Hand counted too as it is the only way to prevent ballots being rejected by the machine because the people used a HB instead of a 2B pencil or some other crap like the ‘hanging chads.’ Even if you just spit on the candidate you want, as long as you leave a mark that is clearly defining your intention then it should be counted.
