I was talking with Adrian and the topic came up. Is there a future for porn mags now with the internet and all.. and what about on the net?


I remember in the earlier days things were widely available if you went looking, then everything became a pay for site. Is it still even gaining popularity? I have the idea that it is not and that it is actually decreasing.

Anyway.. is there a future for porn or is it a dying out species that watches it?

Now being a little bit more serious, I don't see much future for most of the magazines being porn or not... paper is a big waste, it will go away once there will be nice handheld devices that go on the internet seamlessly and don't need to be recharged too often and have nice resolution... not yet available, but this is the future.

I agree with you there, but I think for Mr. John Doe who randomly goes on the net it will become something rare, given the point of non-free.

I doubt the majority of porn viewers would be willing to pay for it if they can easily go to the video store and rent a DVD. If the internet cost becomes high enough it might just as well go back to that, even though it is less private of course.

They will never take our PORN!

Honestly though they never will, for humans are driven by quite a few base desires underneath all the complex thought patterns. One of these is the desire to mate, to reproduce even. We honestly aren’t that different from the rest of the animal kingdom there.

As long as that desire exists then there will always be a market for porn.

The reason you’re finding more and more pay sites are because of this coupled with greed. Many people are realizing they can make a lot of money through pay to use over a free service. As more and more people turn onto the virtual worlds it means a larger market but also higher costs of running larger and faster servers to deal with the requests.

Terry Pratchett also touched on something relevant as well: The more information you search through the harder it is to find something. The ‘internets’ have been getting larger. Every day there are thousands if not hundreds of thousands of new servers going online and only a fraction of that dropping offline. This means every day it becomes harder to find sites that are hosting free porn in the growing mess that is our global communication system. There might be more servers going up but that is only a small fraction of the overall server increase.

To make it even worse, there are ‘parasite’ sites being hosted as porn is searched for the most out of any other query. These sites are designed to spread viruses, data mine and even just annoy it seems. Never underestimate the childish nature of many humans just to annoy the hell out of others, as a player of online games this is more then apparent to me….

Hence you’re not just searching through unimaginable amounts of data you also have false positives being generated. This makes it near impossible to find free porn sites and even dangerous to try.

So it isn’t that it is even shrinking, it is just getting harder to find because of other reasons.
