The man known as the Godfather of Soul is dead. An agent for music legend James Brown says the singer died in Atlanta earlier today.

Brown was sent to the hospital yesterday with pneumonia.
At the time, reports said he just needed some mild treatment and the singer hoped to be back on stage next weekend. But his conditioned quickly deteriorated.

Brown was born in 1933, and first hit the big time in the 50's. He went on to have one of the most prolific careers in the history of music.

James Brown was 73-years-old.
