For 26 years, a man known only as Secret Santa has roamed the streets every December quietly giving people money. He started with $5 and $10 bills. As his fortune grew, so did the gifts. In recent years, Secret Santa has been handing out $100 bills, sometimes two or three at a time, to people in thrift stores, diners and parking lots. So far, he's anonymously given out about $1.3 million. It's been a long-held holiday mystery: Who is Secret Santa?

And remember.. he was NOT rich when he started out giving money away wink.gif Would you do such a thing? Randomly giving out money?

adrian- 11-18-2006
That's a nice story. But I would start with my friends or relatives that are in need not with strangers. Screw strangers biggrin.gif

ravenranter- 11-19-2006
i think it's a great story.

if all of the "haves" would give to the "have-nots" the world could be very different than it is.

a person could help friends and family, but i think it means more if strangers give to each other.
it's only natural to look out for family members or friends (extended family).
when you give something to a stranger, with no ties, you can help someone just because they're a fellow human.

*remembers buying diapers for a total stranger*

*sees Adrian open his mouth* No not for that person, her kid of course! flourisse/laugh.gif

She asked for the cheapest brand available, as long as she had diapers. I have NO idea why I did that at the time, I still don't. She asked me, and I didn't want to give her the plain cash. Asked what it was for, and when she said diapers I told her "one moment" and bought them.

Ok, she did ask, it wasn't just plain given, but still.

But I still have no idea why I did that *shrug* flourisse/laugh.gif People are strange really. Usually I don't give out money like that. Back in the rich days I bought someone a burger, but now, and in the poor days, no. I need it too much myself unfortunately.

So yeah.. I would do it, but it wouldn't happen often.

Most of the "haves" are in possession of something that they offer as a service that consumers purchase from them. If Bill Gates, Larry Ellison, and the myriad of other software billionaires came together, every American alive could be a millionaire.

The problem is, when you went to Food Lion, you'd be paying $50,000 for a head of lettuce or a gallon of milk, because producers would know that everyone could afford it. Eventually, all of the money would probably end up right back where it started.

That's not quite true it would be couple of hundreds or thousands per person. If you divide a trillion to 300,000,000 as many people are in US it would be "only" $3,333 per person (correct me if I made a mistake), there are not so many billionaires and no trillionaires from what I know, and many of them are paper billionaires, for example Gates has money in stock market, if he would sell everything the stock price would probably go down a bit and he will not obtain as much he has on paper.

If everybody would get $3,333 as Gandalf said there would be inflation that would make those money value probably as much as $333 now. So, don't put your hopes in Bill Gates sharing his wealth, that's not the solution for economic problems -- socialism doesn't work (sorry Eadwine wink.gif )

You forget that what matters is HOW things are applied smile.gif

Sorry Adrian wink.gif flourisse/laugh.gif

(and that's enough for the politically tinted inside jokes flourisse/laugh.gif)

adrian- 11-23-2006
Politically tinted? I take offense, it was a clear political joke wink.gif

EadwineRose- 11-23-2006
Nope, tinted. Nothing pointed to politics before, only your knowledge of the current situation in Holland smile.gif

Enough with the politics and hints now though.
