Or: is Paris getting too much attention in the news?

My opinion: if you don't want to read about it, don't click on the articles about it! Seems lots of folks are lacking the non-click skill. dry.gif

The answer is yes!

Even on political boards, ones meant to be dedicated to Bush, politics and such, there have been a growing number of Paris Hilton threads. What is more shocking is that many of them are trying to promote the idea that Paris is being victimized by an over-zealous prosecution team simply because she is rich….

At least the commenters have a brain in their heads and can point out that any ‘normal’ person violating probation would face prison. That they wouldn’t even make a blimp in the news and likely wouldn’t even get a single tear from these same article posters for their plight. It seems being rich does make a large body of people, ironically not within the top 10%, believe you should be treated better then everyone else. That I still can’t grasp and makes me want to go and lay down….

Over here the main stream opinion is:

1) she is getting too much attention
2) she is getting favored

Folk on forums here rejoiced when she had to go back to jail, saying that she was being puppy handled in comparison to others. She got out of jail too soon, and got too little punishment she actually had to sit out.

While, until I see something proving other wise, I put the low sentence down as a first time offence for a misdemeanor crime.* I still can’t help but wonder to myself what would happen if you or I where in the same position. That we where sentenced to three years probation, with a list of things we had to comply to, and then refused to comply to a single thing on that list. Eventually caught not once, but twice, breaking the law again….

I can’t help but feel we would be getting to know the inside of that cell for a very long time.

*Putting aside the fact driving under the influence shouldn’t be a misdemeanor to start with….

I would put the drunk driving as first offense, but failing to comply is the second in my eyes. She is breaking the law by not even following the rules the law itself set up for her.

I hear the jail cell time went back to the 40something days, which is good. By breaking the rules she shouldn't even have gotten the 20something favoritism.

As for too much attention.. I still don't know. She is just the current HOT item, it'll blow over. I hope.

Yeah but the prohibition office was a first time and the original crime viewed as a misdemeanour and that is why I hope it was for that reason the sentence was so small. Still want to know something Ironic: The press took pictures of her driving to the courthouse to face charges of prohibition violations. Violations that included driving without a licence…

Can you say ‘will never learn?’

Hmm.. sure looks like it.

In general yes, too much attention, in this case no really, because it's a matter of justice and people are and should be interested by this... if a "celebrity" gets 40 days prison time and that get reduced to 30 and she gets out in 3 it's a matter of public interest no matter who the "celebrity" is. Otherwise I don't care about what she's doing or who she fucked lately... that's too much attention.

I think the too much attention comes from the fact she has been the top story in most of the news for almost…. A solid week now? Right to the point where other news that is more impacting to society is pushed further back or not mentioned at all. Down here it was done right, it was a one off segment the day it happened and not mentioned again. Over there whole programs dedicated themselves to showing the conditions she will be staying in, on dogging her every step, making sure she was the top story for days running…

It isn’t that she is in the news; it is that she has saturated the news…
