I was just wondering, does anyone else here collect OLD things?

For me, old sewing machines, however I am VERY picky with what I buy, which results in me only having two in the house, one 1888 machine for display only and a 1951 treadle.

They aren't worth much, but that doesn't matter. I like them, and that is all I need smile.gif

I am looking to add a child's sewing machine to the lot. Not one of those plastic things they have now, but a metal one they used to have in the '50s and before that smile.gif

How about you? Do you collect old things?

i never thought of myself as a collector, per se, but i do have a few things:

*a 1930's hutch and buffet.

*occupied germany china from the 1930's.

*noritake china from the 1940's.

*numerous platters and serving bowls from the 1930's.

*quite a few buddha and assorted figurines circa 1930-1940's from korea and japan.

*several books from the 1800's.

*a martha washington style sewing cabinet from the 1800's.

the sad thing is, i don't think the kids will have an appreciation for any of this some day when we're gone. i love old stuff; they don't make things like they used to.

The only old thing that I collect is me -- and I hope to get old enough to start to have some value.

Sounds like a wonderful collection Ravenranter smile.gif

I have been thinking about why I collect the older things.. they have character, a story to tell, so to speak. Plus, they outage me, and in some cases even my great grandmother, that is.. whoa.

And I guess it also involves a bit of wacko.gif

But.. don't tell anyone that!! flourisse/secret.gif flourisse/laugh.gif
