shortly after letting my kitty inside, i noticed that i smelled skunk. flourisse/crybaby.gif
a friend had had the same problem a couple of years ago with her dog and i recalled that she had used summer's eve feminine powder. i decided that i would try this out instead of bathing; i just didn't want to deal with the battle of getting him immersed, etc.
i powdered very liberally (half the container) and, brushed him thoroughly and left him outside for about fifteen minutes and then i let him back in to eat.

voila! it worked! biggrin.gif
the cat smells...very fresh. he left little powderpuff marks everywhere around the house for about 24 hours, but other than that, i have no complaints. and neither did the cat!

One question though.. isn't this bad for kitties when they clean themselves? flourisse/dontgetit.gif *bes worried*

the ingredients (in order of label): zea mays (corn) starch, tricalcium phosphate, octoxynol-9, benzethonium chloride, fragrance.

so, corn starch is no biggie- we know that.
tricalcium phosphate is bone ash. not bad for kitty, but i don't know if i want to throw it there, if you know what i mean. *yuk*
octoxynol-9 is spermicidal. i have no idea why that's in there.
benzethonium chloride is an antiseptic and preservative. it's in lots of personal care products and veterinarian products of a topical nature.

i'm sure that it's a good idea to use it outdoors and to keep it out of eyes. i used exam gloves and massaged just a wee bit on the top of his head, behind his ears. where i felt i didn't have to use it, i didn't. by the smell, he seemed to have been sprayed on his back and some landed on the top of his head, between his ears. i would also recommend a good brushing to get out as much excess as possible.

At times like these I, for one, am glad my kitty is an indoor kitty, and for two, I don't think we have skunks in the wild here.. whew.

blink.gif really??? no skunks? not to sound terribly ignorant...i thought they were common. they don't have the best eyesight, so i think most of the time they spray as a result of being startled. they're cute when little.

I have never seen one out in the wild in any case.. and I don't live in a city either, just a small town.

There are no wild skunks in Europe.
