i was wondering what your thoughts are on the la-*test*-('") in RFID technology and the use of RFID technology in general?

i get angry whenever i hear or think about it. mad.gif

as if it isn't bad enough that the powers that be want to put it on merchandise, currency, passports and use them medical -*test*-('")s, etc. the thought of being dusted with them seems one of the most invasive things ever.

i guess i'm going to have to start wearing a raincoat and galoshes along with my tin-foil hat! dry.gif

I find it scary stuff. They could slip that on you and you wouldn't even know.

Most certainly an invasion of privacy then, but I am sure that by then a new law will be in place allowing it used for common indentification and all that, making it mandatory to have it or else.

I let a Dutch friend of mine read this topic too and she said it reminded her VERY STRONGLY of this: link

i've never read The Perfect Day. i'm intrigued; i wonder if it still is in print...

my thought with the dusting is this: let's say you're at a demonstration, possibly not a participant, just nearby and they dust. i don't want those things on me and falling off inside my house. and then what??? would they pull people in for questioning? or spy on people as long as they were on you or in your house?

the same with RFID on currency: i earned it, i paid taxes (ostensibly) on it, it's mine and it isn't their business what i buy with it.

and this coming from the country that espouses "freedom"... more like "freedom" for the government and technocrats to spy on everything and everyone!

i personally think that's one of the reasons for making RFID smaller and smaller; people are already talking about using hammers to break the ones that they want to put in passport covers, etc. you can't destroy something that is barely detectable to the eye.

ravenranter- 02-17-2007
blink.gif that's scary. after the last post i made, there were several ads relating to RFID at the top of the page. flourisse/laugh.gif

i'm going to have to pay attention to the ads up there to see if they're topically relevant in future threads! flourisse/laugh.gif

flourisse/laugh.gif They most likely are.. they ARE by google after all, but yeah.. quite intruiging.

I am seeing cellphone ads now..

The book is available online, no problem smile.gif

That is exactly how I feel about it!

We will have freedom of speech but not of moving about. Bad bad if you ask me dry.gif

Mind.. (editing, I can keep on replying to myself LOL) they should be destroyable.. *looks for Adrian* I have this feeling he will know how flourisse/laugh.gif

since it is only fair to have the standpoint of others', here are industry's take on the chipping on merchandise: what it contains in the database, de-activation and so forth.

I have glanced over the first article you linked to, and I deduct from it that "they" are trying to bring out the word that this thing isn't going to endanger our freedoms and such. I don't find it strange that people react the way they do, with fear of being tracked wherever they go.

Imagine the employer would do that to you, apply a form of tracking. Every time you take a dump or stand still to blow your nose or soemthing gets counted as non productivity..

They can say whatever they want about this thing, but I am afraid I will not believe it.

Would it make the world a safer place, I wonder. I am probably overlooking MANY things and have a way wrong impression about this. I also haven't heard a peep of it here in The Netherlnads so I can't really judge it, but I suspect that many of the Dutch people will respond just like I do: "No thank you, shoo with that thing".

Just the way I feel about it, I guess.

That's not as bad as it seems at the first look... just think about it, people who work more will be paid more, people who work less will be paid less. I would be up to you how much you how much money you want to make and how much work you are willing to do for that.

At the price of being watched all the time? No thanks, I'll change jobs.

ravenranter- 02-21-2007
i guess it's the pervasiveness that pisses me off: pets, possible uses during medical -*test*-('")s (by ingesting them), nike running shoes, shelf merchandise, currency, passports,
clothing and finally, chipping ourselves to keep track of our medical records, etc. mad.gif i fully expect to take a bite of apple and find one sticking out like a worm! dry.gif
