Of course we say at times "If only I could go in x's place", where x is anyone you can think of that you would say you would die in place for should they fall terminally ill.
But think about it.. suppose you actually could: would you REALLY give up your life?

depends...

depends..
You're in the philosophy area here.. you are standing on a stage, everyone is looking at you..
And you say.. "depends..."
*giggles* Elaborate, pretty please

For my son--absolutely, without hesitation. Anyone else, I dunno.

How far would you go? For your husband? Sister, brother? Maybe a parent?
I honestly wouldn't know, since then I would first have to pretty much judge how much a person's life is worth, and if the person is doing enough with the life in the first place.
How CAN you judge that?

Depends on how you feel about the others and how you feel about yourself (if you feel you are too young to die for example) and how you feel about that particular death (if it's horrible torture or not) depends on your outlook about "life after death", depends if it's sure death or if it's only high probability of death (think about carrying an injured person under artillery fire on battlefront vs. going to be executed instead of somebody else). Depends on the "moral situation", take for example a big boat that's sinking, I wouldn't feel like pushing out of the lifeboat a kid or woman in order to save myself, but if you theoretically ask me if I would give my life for any strange woman or kid I would say "no" for sure.

Yes, very few exceptions but for anyone, yes.

"Would I die for someone?"
Yes..., but not for just anyone. I would die - if that is what it would take - to protect my wife, children and grandchildren from being killed or from suffering grave bodily harm. I would also kill -if necessary- to protect them under such circumstances. I believe my first duty is to protect them.
